3DP: Do you also gather actual photos of the objects that you use in a particular scene? Sherwin Boston: Not really, I set the material as close to the real thing as best as I could. I do it one at a time, and I save their settings. 3DP: Any other software that you know how to use, aside from 3dsMAX and Adobe Photoshop? Sherwin Boston: To be honest, I only use 3dsMAX, AutoCAD, and Adobe Photoshop. It is the only software that I know hoe to utilize in this field. I tried Sketchup once, but what I don’t like about the software is that it can’t produce realistic images. 3DP: But if you just wanted to present schemes, Sketchup can do the job. Sherwin Boston: I can say that I can easily model in Cad and render massing in Max. 3DP: And vray for Sketchup is now available. Sherwin Boston: Yes, but I still prefer to use 3dsMAX in coming up with my images. 3DP: Do you try to project a certain style in your renders, just like our fellow 3dpinoy member bokkins, whose renders are at first glance easily recognizable as a bokkins render? Is there already a kurdapya trademark? Sherwin Boston: I don’t think I have a trademark. But I try to improve my renders everyday. That is basically my aim. I can say that my works from the previous month is different from the image that I produce at the present. |

3DP: I noticed that most of your works are interior renders, do you still do any exterior renders? Sherwin Boston: Most of the renders I currently do are interiors, because I work in an Interior Design company, but I also do exterior renderings in freelance work. 3DP: Any influences in your 3d works? who do you look up to? Sherwin Boston: Every 3d rendered image that I see at the internet or in magazines, gives me the challenge to do better or to at least match the quality that other renderers can do. 3DP: How does a design/render process start? Are there schemes or sketches first? Sherwin Boston: I sometimes make the design through sketches. The purpose of which is to get the general idea as a whole. I can easily visualize and do the things that I want in a particular design if it is in 3D. Thinking of the right elements for the design is a time consuming process. Then, after coming out with the design, texturing follows. I believe that if you have the concept, and the precise fundamentals for your design, the general output can be easily produced. 3DP: Do you browse through magazines for design ideas? Sherwin Boston: I browse through magazines and books, but most of all, I collect rendered images from the internet. It’s quite weird because I save tons of images that I see at CG sites, for no other reason but only as a guide for future references. 3DP: Do you think filipinos are a natural in this form of discipline? Sherwin Boston: I think so, Filipinos are diligent and resourceful. |

3DP: In your opinion, is there a need to push the Computer Graphics industry in the country? Sherwin Boston: For me, I agree on this, there are so many talented Filipinos. What we don’t have are resources, and support, especially from government. 3DP: I think that is one of the reasons, why some of are finest artist in this trade are out of the country. Sherwin Boston: I have a point on that. If we can earn what we are earning right now in the Philippines, there would no reason for me to leave the country. But I can proudly say that nothing can compare with living in your own motherland. 3DP: Let’s talk a bit about modeling. Which do you prefer, editable mesh or editable polys? Sherwin Boston: Honestly, I am no that good in modeling so I cannot compare the two. I do most of my modeling in CAD. 3DP: Since you said that you usually do most of the modeling in CAD, do you still look forward to learning more about the modeling software that you are using and it’s capabilities? Sherwin Boston: Yes, especially in the modeling part, I am poor in that area. And so far, I am into still images, I hope one day I can finally be able to do animations. 3DP: Any future plans in the field of Architectural Visualizations? Sherwin Boston: I hope someday, I can set-up my own firm, have my own team, and be able to compete in the world of visualization.
